Holding the Church Accountable

December 5, 2009

The NY Times has an article today,  from the Associated Press,  about how the Cardinal in Ireland is meeting with Pope Benedict to discuss the cover up of abuse for decades in Ireland.

The Superior General of the Jesuit order, Adolfo Nicolas, has not done anything about the Missouri Jesuits cover up of wrong doing by abusers and provincials after credible allegations were made.  We’re talking about known abusers, that Missouri Jesuits allowed to return to ministry,  which the church says never happens anymore.

I will make sure the Jesuits take responsibility, since Fr. Nicolas has not yet done so.

Here’s the article:

The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland says he will meet Pope Benedict XVI next week to discuss a devastating report that found the church covered up clerical child abuse for decades.

Cardinal Sean Brady says he and Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin would meet the pontiff at the Vatican.

The report was published last month after a government-ordered investigation. It found that church leaders in the Dublin Archdiocese failed to inform authorities about sexual abuse by priests, while police failed to pursue allegations under the belief that church figures were above the law.

Brady told broadcaster RTE on Saturday that the church had failed victims of the abuse, but now it was time ”for action and accountability and taking of responsibility.”
