I wrote a “Holding Jesuits Accountable” post on May 10, that you can find below.   I had written to the presidents of Georgetown and Fordham about the Jesuit abuser teaching at both universities, and I heard back today from the president of Fordham, Rev. Joseph McShane, SJ.    He said emphatically that O’Connell will not be allowed to return to the university.   He also said the Missouri province gave him absolutely no notice that it was allowing the Jesuit abuser to teach at the university.  He thanked me for telling them.

Nothing yet from Georgetown, or its president, John DeGioia, but I will stay on it.

I wrote a few days later, on May 15,  to Adolfo Nicolas, the Jesuit Superior General, who is the supervisor of Tim McMahon, who I caught lying and failing to supervise the Jesuit abuser.   I did not hear back yet, but mail takes longer to get to Italy.   In another week or two, I will know he is choosing to look the other away if I don’t hear back.

I just wanted to send a word of support. I, too, am a survivor of clergy abuse and have had similar troubles with reporting and leaders (including one you mention) showing responsibility and accountability. It is disgusting. I am so sorry you are dealing with this, and I admire your courage. I will continue to pray for you.

Thank you so much for your words of support. It means a great deal to me.

I hope your experience works out okay, but this road has so many twists and turns and betrayals, it’s very hard to trust any experience anymore.

    Thanks again.
